Tiny Hearts Album Launch & Trio Live to Air / by Steve Barry

I'm excited to announce that Tiny Hearts (formally The Dilworths), are launching our debut album this Friday 28th March at SIMA in Sydney. We spent two days in the studio after touring Australia and New Zealand in May of last year and haven't played the music live since, so it'll be fun to revisit the material nearly a year on - especially as we'll be joined by Australian tenor colossus Jamie Oehlers. You can check out a couple of tracks from the record online here. CDs will be available on the night - featuring my brief recording debut on vibraphone!

We're also launching the album at Bennetts Lane in Melbourne on Sunday 30th for the Melbourne Jazz Co-op.

New Album!

Last month Dave Jackson, Alex Boneham, Tim Firth and I recorded a new album in Melbourne at Niko Schauble's Pughouse studios. More info and a release date will be out soon.

Trio Live on Fine Music FM 102.5

This Saturday 29th March I'm doing my first gig live to air! Tom Botting, Tim Firth and I will be live on Sydney's Fine Music FM 102.5 from 12-1pm playing some music off the new record. You'll be able to stream the performance online here.
Steve Barry Trio/Casey Golden Trio @ 505, April 2

I'm also looking forward to this battle of the trios double header with Casey Golden at 505. Casey has also just laid down some music for a new record, so it'll be great to hear his band fresh out of the studio. You can check out his previous record here. More info and tickets available here - we'd love to see you there!

Tom Botting has put up some videos from his quintet gig at Jazzgroove a few weeks ago which I was a part of. Tom's music is always beautifully melodic and the band sounds great - you can check it out here.

I've been really enjoying playing Hammond organ lately, and every so often I get the chance to fill in down at the Commons Bar in Darlinghurst on a Saturday night, a trendy underground place just off Oxford Street. Last week Roy Issac, Dave Goodman and I had a blast playing through some standards - here's a little bootleg of Cole Porter's Night and Day. Stay tuned for an originals project as well...

I've just been listening to New York-based Australian bassist Linda Oh's 2013 record Sun Pictures, which features James Muller on guitar and Americans Ben Wendel and Ted Poor, and British pianist Gwilym Simcock's duo record with Russian bassist Yuri Goloubev, Duo Art: Reverie at Schloss Elmau.

All the best until next time,
